The siding Thread... updated! (Pics 5/24 Finished the Front!!!!)

The only thing that was keeping me out of the backyard was that I had to finish up the income taxes. I finally made it outside by 5:00. It was gorgeous! But then I realized that there were mosquitoes out too.

    Finally solved chipper shredder problem!

I have a McCullogh chipper shredder (http://www.amazon.com/Green-Culture-Electric-Chipper-Shredder/dp/B000BWGAJ2)that works great on small branches, but the opening at the top made it impossible to shred more than a handful of oak leaves at a time. lifespan of pine raised beds?

How many years am I likely to get from raised beds constructed of douglas fir 2" x 8"'s before they rot away? Using this material is so much cheaper than Trex or cedar.

    Grubby little black bugs

Oh yeah, I've had black aphids too! Some people buy lady bugs to eat aphids. It doesn't make sense to buy lady bugs unless you have enough aphids for them to eat. Sounds like you might have plenty.

    Parsley recipes wanted, also GINGER

    Newbie question......

I think your plan is basically good! No, great! I would, however, mix in your existing soil with the rest of that stuff. You need the natural microorganisms from the soil to help decompose stuff. It will also extend your compost/manure mix. Just make sure you let it all sit at least 6 weeks...

In the spirit of recycling, what garden project are you most proud of?

That sounds like a good DH! Mine helped me today lay (more) slates in mortar around two sides of my chicken coop. No 'coons getting in there!

I had some one summer and a friend was visiting with his Indonesian wife. She got very excited when she saw the cinnamon basil and said that's what they used in her country for cooking.

    ants... in the garden

What about boric acid? I think it might work dry or wet. Before it became popular as a bug killer people used to use it as an eye wash, so I think it is pretty safe.

Thanks karanleaf and blurose for the compliments. I am very proud of my rock garden. I had major callouses on my hands for a couple of months from all that.

Sorry, everyone, I don't think I posted that photo correctly. I don't know what I am doing wrong and DD is not here to help tech challenged mom. (Never mind! I got it!)
