The first time thru, that Comfrey was still to wet so i just shredded it with no screen. After drying i ran it back thru a finer screen and ended up with 20lbs of meal. I’ll quit here as i don't need it any finer.
So now i know how this will go, 1 cutting will yield 2lbs of amendment per bed...
Perfect timing! Before noon yesterday i took the pumpkins and cut the potato vines and covered them. I’ll dig them in 2-3 weeks. Then i attempted to grind the one cutting from my new Comfrey patch which is still too wet so the hammer-mill just shredded it. Now it’s on the shop floor for a week...
The new hive was lifted into a pickup this morning and is setting up the hill at the intended location and i’ve got 3 strong helpers headed this way.
The big thing was getting it out of the shop; making room for the other projects in the pipeline!
With “some wet” right around the corner; i lifted the Onions and got them in the shed where they will cure a week or so then get bunched and hung.
Im happy with the outcome, thank you Lord!
The second crop brocilli is flowering too and im pretty certain they will finish in time. (they always...
Caution!! This could happen if you plant a Cherry tree!
Two trays per picking, probably a couple more pickings left on tree. Pitted and frozen then bagged.
The Raspberries keep coming too, at this point we’re at 7 gallons in the freezer, probably go for another couple gallons before turning...
All the Comfrey is cut and hung in the barn to dry. When i set up to grind compost; ill run the shocks of Comfrey thru the hammer mill too. Ground id expect this much will fit in a 50lb feed sack and with an NPK value higher than most Manure; it will be added to the amendment schedule in the...
Raspberries doing well this year. I pick this many every other day and when i look at where i’ve been it doesn’t look like i’ve picked them! Of course im only going for the easy, cleanest berry’s too.
Just finished our Sockeye dip netting season and took 35 of these glistening beauties along the way. Of course all the "leavings" went into the Hydroslate drum and will eventually end up on something around here.
Indy tire change!
While Ruthy started the blanch and freeze of the first 36 Broccoli i pulled the spent plants and replanted the next 36! As a “square ft. Gardner i gave up on “recommended proper spacing” a long time ago.
In a 3 X 6 ft. Section of one bed i plant 18 holes with two plants in a...
The old stand-by “Celebrity” on the left and a new one Minusk Lion; which is earlier, bigger and a little sweeter than the Celebrity. And far more tomato’s than we can eat right mow.
Gave them something to aim for when landing today. The entrance reducer is re-sawn Teak from some long gone ocean liners handrail and the landing board is Red Cedar from the ranch in Dakota!
The roof is done and it’s stop; used a cool Miami chain for a little gangster look😜. The vents are in too.
In order to move this thing around the shop i welded some casters to some 3”flat bar then tacked it to the feet of my hive stand and now it’s as easy as an office chair to move around. In...
10 big-uns in the bank!
They closed one of our weed dominant “garden centers” this week and at 25% savings, i picked up enough of the grow medium i use for all my spring starts to get me thru a couple seasons!
