    Do they have long thorns? Like, three inches long? If they do, then that's hawthorn, unless there's a cultivar that doesn't have thorns. :shrug I've heard trying to doctor trees can be a bad thing. I cut dead branches off trees all the time and it doesn't hurt them, but putting sealant on...

    Soooo, You're thinking about raising goats.

    I've heard of some people who keep goats with a 3 foot fence. They train their goats to the fence young, and don't have trouble with it. I guess it depends on the goat, however, 'cuz mine jump 4-footers just for kicks!

    What kind of Squash am I?

    I have no idea, but I seem to have the same thing growing in MY garden. The seed company mixed something that wasn't a cuke, into my cuke seed packet. Question: Was it fuzzy when it was immature?

    another pesky cucumber ?

    From what I've gathered (from experience and research), you can pickle cucumbers that are for fresh eating, and eat fresh cucumbers that are for pickling. I just grow picklers and eat 'em fresh. :P

    When will my watermelons be ready?

    I planted a row of Sugar Baby melons on May 15th, give or take a few days, and the melons are about 5 lbs now. When will they be ready? How can I tell? What happens if I harvest them too early? Can I still eat them? And, do chickens and goats like melon rinds?

    New to forum...

    Hi, I'm Raindance! You can call me RD... ;) I live in Zone 4, grow about 15% of my own food, and have a few animals. I am currently striving to grow more than 50% of my own food, but that's pretty darn ambitious. I think gardening is uber-fun, and the food is unparalleled! :weight
