same here the two times i've grown them. winter wheat and winter rye (the grains not the grasses) do survive our winters with no problems.

It is a long ways from here. The patch we have was planted a long time ago and isn't doing that great now but that is because i don't do much to it anymore since we don't eat it ourselves and none of the people we used to give it to are alive any more. I will chew on a few stalks here or there...
