    cover crop as lawn alternative?

Just an update, I will be planting the wildflowers this year. The millet, sunflowers and buckwheat did well last year. I am in fact turning about 1/3 of the area into a small orchard. Mostly blueberries as they are supposed to be bulletproof around here.

    Wildflower seed companies (any recomendations?)

Planning on installing a 7,000 sq ft wildflower meadow this year. I knew the seed would cost some money, but it seems like the prices are somewhat variabe depending on the company. Anybody have a company they were pleased with?

    Green Pepper Sauce

Ohh I almost forgot, look around and you can find tabasco pepper transplants now. they make very good sauce (good without mash, awesome with a little jelapeno mash). The tabasos are the last peppers to mature and grow into huge (for peppers) bushy plants.

    Green Pepper Sauce

I've been making hot sauce from my peppers for a couple years now. You will find tons of recipes on the internet (from very simple to very complex). After you read a bunch and try a few you will get a nack for tweeking them to your own taste (I always add garlic). You will find different...

Is it a BLACK walnut tree? I know tomatoes and peppers will not grow within about 50ft of black walnuts because of thier allelopathic effect. I cannot find whether or not pumkins are afffected by it. here's a link

    Irrigation recomendations (drip tape)

I'm looking to put in a drip irrigation system for the garden (about 2,000 feet of drip tape). There are several products out there. I'm looking at something called "T-tape" specifically. Anybody used it or a similar product? What were the results?

    encouraging blackberry patch to expand?

I have cleared out around them. The big first year canes are still straight up and down. I will bend them over and let them root toward the end of the season. I don't think tasting the berries before using them in a pie will be a problem ;) Could you imagine picking berries and NOT tasting...

    encouraging blackberry patch to expand?

I have a section of my land that is kind of marshy brush. There are a few scattered blackbery canes, and lots of honeysuckle. How can I encourage the blackberries to expand? Clear ground around them? Fertilize? Will berries planded in ground germinate or do they have to go through a birds...

    cover crop as lawn alternative?

well, the neighbor has let me use his tractor to plow the site as well as the strip further up slope from this area. It was all compacted subsoil with patchy weeds. 1/4 acre total. I did the best i could to rake it out a little and have planted brown top millet, sunflowers and buckwheat...

How much would you pay for this at a farmers market......

Great ideas guys. I was planning on making it nice looking. I figure the jars cost about a buck, and the labels and recipes might be some change plus the peppers. I figure I'll start them out at $3.00 (small batch hot sauce costs $4-5.00 in a store) If they don't sell I can always lower the...

    Dried Red Tomatoes

Anybody dry anything else? I was thinking about what you could dry and then bag to make a nice quick vegetable soup? You know, just throw a mix of dryed veggies in quart bags, dump them in water with some beef cubes or onion soup mix. Maybe a way to get rid of the huge excess of squash...

How much would you pay for this at a farmers market......

Hot Sauce Kit Basically it will include: A 1/2 pint mason jar Enough Fresh Peppers to make the recipe (usually around 4 or 5) Detailed instructions and recipe Kind of a gimmick I know, but before I started growing my own peppers I would always go to markets and see peppers bunched. I would...

    Farmers Market

What are some good ways to "bunch" produce? I will be attending a saturday market this year. Main crops will be peppers (bell and hot), tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, and cantaloupe (fingers crossed). I imagine I can sell toms cucs and bell peppers seperately, but the green beans and hot...

    Peppers Yellowing and Leaves Curling

How long have they been in the ground? Mine always do that during that time before they settle in and actually start growing (actually doing it right now). I've read that it can be caused by "physiological stress" aka transplaning into alien soil and erratic outdoor temps as opposed to the...

    NOT Habenero Pepper Plant!

The fact that you got it from a nursery tells me that it's probably a fairly common type. The upright form of the fuit narrows it down a little also. I agree with meandwi its probably what I've always seen labled as simply: Thai Chili Pepper. Could also be what are called "bird peppers" in...

    Let the "growing" begin!

I also moved out to land this year but instead of taking it slow I planted the whole field (over 1200ft of rows!!!!!). I think I got in a little over my head :o . I believe you can even bring the pepper plants in and keep them all winter. They are actually a perennial vegetable if you can...

    Tomatoe and Jalepeno canning recipe?

Coopy, when you put the jalapenos in the diced toms do you add any vineger? Are we talking pressure canning or just hot water bath. I'd love to add some peppers to my canned toms but was always worried about them being low acid. Got a recipe?

Bell Peppers (getting clean ripe fruit without pesticides)

No specifics. In years past I just didn't worry about it enough try and identify it. Guess I'll have to get better at diagnosis this year.

does anybody have any? the Garden is set up in 4ft beds with a central isle left untilled. Left side of isle are 11 75ft beds and on right side are 11 35ft beds. I'm looking for a low cost solution (who isn't right?). I would love to be able to water the whole garden with one turn of a...
