#1 Thinking that I could have a lush cottage garden here in the desert, And trying year after year despite continued failures.
#2 Not researching my growing zone and learning how to grow here for 8 years, despite continued failure.
#3 Spending $100.00's of dollars on plants that eventually...
The first pic. is corn and the little starts in the back of that pic. are tomatoes. the beans are blue lake bush from burpee. My fingers are crossed that they all make it into the garden and root well.

i haven't put anything outside yet. But I hope these little guys go out and make me lots of good veggies this spring.
I am going to build a scarecrow as for a little art in the garden. I love how they look in a cornfield so I thought I would put one in my corn patch. I will post a pic. when I am done with it.
I was wondering how you decorate your garden. I would like to see pics. of your garden art, bird...
southern,
it is good to see your name..I haven't seen you post in awhile on BYC and was wondering how you were doing. Good luck with your garden. It's my first year with a big garden and I am finding this sight very helpful.
We planted pumpkin in tires last year and didn't cut the tires at all just plopped them on the ground and filled them with soil....The only draw back here was that it gets real hot and the black of the tire heats up fast. If I do it again I think I will paint the tire and see if it cuts down on...

Welcome, Hope to learn a lot here myself as this is my first year with a garden this scale. Usually I just plant a small batch here and there. This year I made a huge patch and have 400 plants in starter pots. I am feeling ambitious this year LOL :tools

I have to say that living in the desert not many native plants interest me. I like them when we walk through the desert but wouldn't really want most of them growing in my yard.
Sell by dates are not the same as say an experation date. It just means that they need to have it out of there stock by that date. So in other words they need to be planted this season. Just like when you buy things at the store they always have a sell by date. It doesn't mean they are bad it...
I planted my black berry bush yesterday. YAY!!!
I know,I Know some of you all are going to tell me I am crazy for planting a black berry bush but I just love black berry's. Where I grew up they were every where. Here in AZ we don't have any and they make me feel like home. Plus you get jam and...
We have a lot of rabbits around here. Over the years I have tried many things to keep them out of my garden. The only thing I have found that really works is a garden fence. Sometimes you can deter them for awhile with shiny things that blow in the wind but eventually they will still eat your...
I just started mine this morning. I decided to experiment with some different plants this year, so I thought it would be a good idea to log my garden so I can keep track of there progress and decide what I will plant nest year.
