Just starting out this year, I have made a few crosses and see some seed pods growing but not a real breeder of daylilies yet.
Anybody got pics of their seedlings?
Yeah it wouldn't make sense for God to make a vine that wants to climb and punish it for growing up by snatching the fruit off of it prematurely.
Makes sense to me too.
Last year I started raising a garden, and when my first zucchini started to bloom, there was no male flower in bloom in my garden, so I jumped in the truck and went up the street to my neighbor's house to get a flower from him to pollinate with. So I got a Yellow Crookneck (early prolific)...
Passionfruit (AKA maypops) is good for anything that wants to eat it.
I love them, you can eat them right off the vine, or juice them in a blender on low, the seeds are hard and usually don't break easily and if they do they really dont have any flavor.
Added to other fruit juices, they really...
you can just get the garden ready before last frost, and since they are seeds you can plant them whenever you like (as long as it is close to spring) they will come up when they are ready, and they will be tough that way too.
Hi all I have some seeds if anyone is interested in them.
As follows
Crookneck Squash X Zucchini
These seeds came from my strongest Zucchini female plant pollinated by my neighbor's best Yellow Crookneck. I am only getting rid of half of these, as I want to plant them next spring.
Indian...
with White Scuppernongs!
I have about 20 vines, and they ALL look like this! This year is the best we have had in three years. The goats got them last year and the emu go them two years ago. I am so excited, here ya go.
It is fine to eat fresh....FRESH FRESH like within twenty or thirty minutes of picking.
My birds eat it real good. It is actually higher in protein than yellow or white corn.
Some varieties will pop, I dont know if this one will or not...yet.
I am hoping to grind most of it for cornmeal.
Hi, I was talking to my neighbor and he didn't think his almost 30 year old Indian Corn (used for decoration in his old farm house ) would germinate, so I planted one ear of it to prove him wrong, and here is a few ears to show for proof. I was able to plant four really long rows of corn with...
I know what you are talking about. I will have about a million seeds in another month. But no young plants. If you want some seeds just holler at me. Probably easiest to PM me since I am at BYC a lot more than I am here.
I wanted to show these off and offer some to y'all if you want some.
I was not planning on planting any corn, but my neighbor had this really really really old corn for decoration hanging up in the old farm house, and I planted it. Really, I planted it just to show him that it would in fact...
I enjoy cross-breeding almost anything really.
I happen to know a lot about breeding methods and all that, just unfamiliar with the actual physical how-do-you-do-it of flowers.
I like to see all the strange and different results also.
Since the 'mother' plant that I am using is a hybrid between...
It is too late for me to do this, this year; But next year I want to plant some blue corn and some red corn and cross-pollinate it, to see what I get.
Does anyone know whether I would get a purplish corn or would I get ears with both blue and red kernels?
I know the best way to do it is to...
If anyone has any pics I would love to see them.
Next year I am wanting to use Yellow Crookneck, Butternut, and some red Pumpkin as well. It would be neat to produce something that will get pretty good size and has a fairly high sugar content with lots of color, nothing pale in other words.
I...
Checking the fruit every day may be a problem. If he touches it too often it may be bad for it.
But the flowers usually die and fall off after a day or three anyways. probably nothing to worry about.
The plants will be pollinated by bees and flies, I would not worry about doing it myself if I...
Thanks!
I am by no means the guru, but I am learning how to cross-pollinate all the veggies that I can just to try to figure out how to do it.
I have already done some squash and will start a new thread in the right place about that.
