I think it really makes a difference which post office you are dealing with. A particular post office clerk might interpret what is required on customs labels differently. They just simply get picky. Sounds like your smaller post office is the place to go.

I find it really important to get an experienced person.

The clerk at the larger post office has been there for years and is probably close to retirement. Evidently her purpose is to treat every transaction with the scrutiny of a drill sergeant. :D

I seldom go to to post office where my mail comes from because it's eleven miles away in a direction I only travel a few times a month and is only open a few hours a day. We had a post office five miles away but the building owner wouldn't renew the lease with USPS and the community has been promised a new location for two years now. I pass two others on the way to town but really limited hours on those too. I guess that's one of the downsides to rural living.
