Attractive To Bees
My poles are also about 2.5 meter / 8 feet tall but I usually build tipis of 3, 4 or 6 poles. So when I cut my 8 foot long furing stirpes to 84 inches that is 7 feet. Then if I drive then into the ground a foot they are 6 feet tall sticking out of the soil. Most of the pole beans grow to the top and then most of the way back down to the soil. I get plenty of seed and have grown them like this for 50 years.
But this year I got an additional bean from the Swiss foundation for the cultural and genetic plants and animals preservation that should urgently be multiplied. They are called "Weisse Franzosen" ("white French") and grow to 6+ meter/ 20+ feet. I still do not know yet where to plant them as growing to the top and back down is not enough
