2026, My year of Garden Narcissism

Good thought...
Today I sat on the porch where DH used to love to sit, east facing, enclosed--it was his favorite room in the house.
Thinking about burning in my fire pit, then the weather report fulfilled itself, 40+mph gusts ALL afternoon. Went to church in summer clothes, 80 degrees F.
I was feeling mopey, didn't want to do ANYTHING, then decided I should fill the 100 gal horse water tank. I went out about 2:30 in a short sleeved shirt rethinking my choice what with the temperature drops. I managed to pull out the long hoses from the Carriage House/She Shed, hooked them up AAAAANNNDD one hose had a serious leak. I pulled another hose and managed to use only 2 hoses from the house--tank is now full.
That will save me feeding time.
Low of 30 tomorrow morning.
DD's cleared out the office stuff from the Dodge Ram Cummins yesterday. I was planning on driving it back to fill up gas cans. They said to bring it. As is becoming the custom, I am giving away to family. In this case, it is the 100+??? oval library table that DH had at his office and it was still in the back of the truck. Looks a Lot like this one, with a single middle drawer:

Broken hoses were dragged to the trash and picked up this morning.
Unusually high temperatures, with high winds, burned yesterday, but rain tonight. Put a bale of hay out and filled the 1/2 manger with another bale. Water tank is down 6 inches, but holding. Pulled both grain buckets by the fence out of their reach. Secured the dog poo stall rake, put a brick in the bucket where I dump it and next to the house.
Brought back the garbage pickup can to the NE corner in front of the garage. Neighbors leave theirs out and they blow over in high winds.
Had to mail to SS today. Old atty who stayed in the office mislaid my letter. It was dated March 2nd and was Supposed to be filled out and mailed back in 5 days.
THAT passed. I filled it out, took it Directly to the postman at the post office 12 miles away, where they have reasonable open hours, copied all of it, printed the letter and hand wrote that the old office had mishandled my mail and that I only received it yesterday, and to please accept it, OR remail and I would fill it out again.
These are the headaches...

T storms waited until the middle of the night, which was when Tegan jumped on me to go out. She did NOTHING, so I put her in her crate until 6:30 this morning. She has been pottying in the basement, so I rigged some bungee cords to hook the basement door handle to my kitchen table leg and blocked it from shutting with a brick.
THIS is so that the cats can come and go to the litter boxes in the basement, but Tegan cannot.
Guess you can tell that the "high chair" will need a good restoration this year.

I do Better when I am busy--get's me outside of my head.
Couldn't stand that my corner sectional was blocking the door to the 2nd floor. We had moved it so that we could get DH to the porch, and it never made it back to it's location. I moved my red chair next to the big AC in the window Forward, and pushed the sectional piece behind. It's not the best place, but now I don't have to keep moving it out of the way when I need to go upstairs.
Nobody here complained...
I am in the dinner rotation to make pork BBQ for tomorrow when DD's return from their visit with our good friend in Indy.
I bought 5 pie pumpkins and they have been on the floor of my kitchen since October. I was busy and couldn't process them. I cooked two of them down after removing the seeds, and I am now soaking the seeds in a brine until tomorrow. I am baking a pumpkin pie this afternoon--or evening--and I'm going to try my hand at pumpkin soup. I'll let you know how that goes. I also have to make some fresh vinegar dressed slaw.
The pork shoulder is thawing out. It goes in the oven at 225 degrees to cook down all night, then remove the fat and bone, cool off, add onions and celery and Sweet Baby Rays bbq sauce, then cook in the crock pot until dinnertime.
BEST way to store the leftovers is to freeze them.
The pie, dehydrated pumpkin seeds and soup are a surprise for DD's, especially my youngest DD, who loves to snack on them. :)

While my 2 DD's that live close are out of town, I have promised to text my other DD after I feed ponies, which involves stairs to the loft, which, for those who Don't know are real, albeit steep steps, AND to text after I drive to the other DD's house to feed their cats.
Otherwise, I am going Nowhere. Good news--the 2 heads of green cabbage in the fridge had only minimal outside leaf damage, so I have plenty to make the slaw!
