They can become a pest. They form tubers as big as potatoes and come back year after year. They seed and little ones pop up everywhere. I like them, have had them before, but won't plant them here. I don't want to go around pulling them up. What if you pack them in sand, keep in a place where they won't freeze and replant in the spring?
Bay, you are right. Neighbor offered me some and I politely turned her down. :p

They are a great plant for hot dry areas but also appreciate a good watering. One variety even has a pleasant smell. My favorites are the multi colored ones. On one plant you may have solid pink,solid yellow,solid white or any combination of these colors. One of the neatest feeders on them is the hummingbird moth. It can be seen flittering around the blooms late in the evening. A great old time plant.
