Whew, that's a lot of tomatoes! I planted 56 last year and swore never again. I did a little better this year, down to only 30. ;)
We also have 30. Used to plant from 80 on up, but I think 30 well tended will be enough for us. When we had all those others, we canned more, and also sold some, and gave away a LOT.
Last year we had around 50 plant and I think we picked about a contractors wheel barrel full a week through out the harvest season.

Wow and I thought I was nuts for putting 48 tomato plants. I couldn't imagine canning all that. Id be glad to have it on hand, but the canning part....wow.

I've never tried canning tomatoes, but maybe that's a thought for next year. . .

I feel like such an underachiever! I only planted 16 tomato plants this year. I thought that would probably be enough for the 4 of us, but now I'm second guessing myself. They're doing great so far, (super lush growth and lots of blossoms) so I will just have to keep my fingers crossed and pray to the tomato Gods.

Chris, no wonder you can so much if you use it twice a week. It must be really yummy!!

Don't feel like an underachiever I used to only plant around 16 or so with a cherry or 2 added to the mix on the patio. Since then its rapidly expanded with the wife wanting to can this year. We eat quite a bit of salsa so that's a majority of where our tomatoes and peppers are going to go. I've got probably 50 sweet pepper plants too, and 6 jalapenos too. Its all about what you can manage and are willing to put the effort into maintaining. Its a lot more weeding, and cages, so more may not be always be better.

By no means should you feel like a underachiever. You have to take baby steps and you can also look at it this way, You are ahead of the people that are not even putting out a garden. ;)
