A Garden Tour...

Thistle, as much as I love the forget-me-nots, there is that moment when the seed heads turn black and look ugly. I try to look the other way for awhile, in the hope that will reseed. I would be happy to cut a bunch of them for you- so you could repopulate your garden. I started with just a few.

lesa what a great tour! I love the bike, I love the path and I love how green everything looks. You are really not that far away from me as the crow flies, but there is a considerable difference between what your vegitation looks like and what mine does. Thank you so much for sharing. I am quessing that there may be a few wood walkways in the future of some of us here.

Stubbornhill, we are planning a camping vacation through Maine later this summer. We will end up on Prince Edward Island. Are there any public gardens in the state that we could visit? I couldn't be happier with the wood walkway. Even the cheapest pavers are a couple bucks- and I don't think they look half as cute!

What a fabulous vacation that will be! Prince Edward Island! Ahhh....I've only been there once briefly, but the landscape is such that it will keep me wanting to go back.

I will have to think in regards to the Maine public gardens. Sadly nothing is coming to mind. However....! Just before you cross into Maine, you will go through Portsmouth, NH. I think that if you have never been there. You would love Strawberry Banke and Prescott Park. Strawberry Bank is the old port part of Portsmouth. They have many, many old homes that you can tour. But most importantly, they have gardens! And then, Prescott Park has a few nice size gardens. Mostly annuals with some perenials. If you are in the area, it is worth a stop and Portsmouth is definately a place that most could easily spend the day.

When I was a small child, Prescott Park would have a "free" day at the end of the year. Free meaning that you could go over and pick the flowers from their garden or dig up, etc. My Nana used to take advantage of that day. They seemed to have stopped for some reason when I was a young teen. It was a pretty cool thing to do though.

strawberrybank.org is their web site. Sadly I just looked and it doesn't do justice to the place in my opinion.

I feel like a tour guide for NH instead of Maine... but The Fuller Gardens in North Hampton, NH is another worth while stop. fullergardens.org is their site. It is about a 25-30 minute drive from North Hampton to Portsmouth.

OK Something for Maine. If you are able to stop at Acadia National Park, the veiws are amazing!! Not specifically gardens, but a sight to behold.

Thanks, Julie "my tour director"! We will actually be staying in Arcadia Park for one or two nights. I have been there before-and you are right, it is beautiful! For reasons I don't understand, we are making a run for Maine- meaning an 8 hour drive. So, we won't be able to stop on the way up- but we will be at a more relaxed pace on the way home. I will keep those ideas handy!
Thanks Steve! I know you are so good at this computer stuff! I finally figured out how to copy and paste the pictures- and I was afraid I would mess it up, if I added the text! I will try again, in the near future (before I forget how to do it!) Soon, there will be veggie pics!

DH here. That wooden path was a PITA because of all the roots and rocks that are on this land but it did turn out pretty good. I don't like to encourage her because she can think up projects faster than I can do them.

My DH came home from working at his dad's property with some big logs he plans to split. I tried to talk him into cutting pavers like that for me, but he was pretty cool on the idea. I didn't have a particular place for them, but knew I could invent something if I had the wood rounds to use. . He got pretty upset at my latest project: "One more thing to mow around".......
