Amaryllis

A friend just stopped by and dropped off a Amaryllis. She loves to garden and planted the bulb herself. The 1 bulb sent up 4 flower stems . I love Amaryllis and alway have a few around at xmas time, never had more then 2 flower stems from 1 bulb.As anyone seen 4 from a bulb?

one i planted last year gave me 4 stems, 2 at a time though and the second time they sent up the stems it produced seeds!

A large bulb from one of the better nurseries is more likely to produce multiple stalks. Of course they are pricier than the ones that you can buy anywhere. I crossed several varieties and produced my own original bulbs. I got a couple nice cultivars but it took many years for them to bloom. I just did it for fun. I have not found the trick to getting the bulbs to grow large especially in a timely fashion. I am sure the growers grow the bulbs very quickly. I would love to know their secret.
