The lights are highly efficient LED grow lights and do not use much power at all. There is hardly any impact on the bill. We switched all of the house lights from incandescent to LEDs in the last year, and the bill has been reduced dramatically from year to date. I opened the bill today and we used a third less electric than this time last year. I am not sure it was the light switch or other changes we made. My feeling is that we are getting quality fresh greens at a fraction of supermarket pricing, and, it is a rewarding passtime. Busy hands are happy hands.

Don't feel bad, Mary. I grow lettuce outside in the winter too! Last year it even got snowed on!Well I feel left out in this thread. I grow lettuce outside in the winter.

I grew lettuce indoors, with spinach and they both came out very good I only did 2 8 inch planters they did well but next time I will grow alot more everyone loved it

Not only do they look good, they taste great, and indoor gardening keeps me busy. With the growing conditions, temperature, light and nutrients, pretty much constant, I can predict when they will be ready for picking weeks ahead of time.
