My thick clay soil does not drain. Winter time is a big risk, I can lose lots of plants. This spring a ever bearing mulberry and a firelight hydrangea tree never leafed out. I had planted 3 of the firelights at same time , 2 leafed out late March 3rd one never did. A few times I meant to pull the dead tree, but didn't Today I saw both mulberry and hydrangea had green buds about to sprout, so glad I didn't pull. Dont know why 3 rd Hydrangea took so long, all 3 purchased same time, same nursery, planted same day.
