I got a bay laurel sapling, a tiny thing to be sure, from Territorial Seed in Cottage Grove, OR. It was the only one they had left and looked healthy when I bought it. I've had it maybe 3 weeks and had repotted it as soon as I got home. How some of the leaves are looking more like dried bay leaves than fresh ones. I may have let the soil dry out one day, but I was hoping that wouldn't have made a drastic impact. Also, how much sun does this tree need? Right now it is in a little clay pot just sitting in amongst my thyme and fern dill. It is getting part sun where it is, but until yesterday it was getting full sun. It almost looks like the leaves are sunburnt on the edges (brown). I've always wanted to grow this plant/tree but have never been able to find one before.

Is it a "sweet bay", or a California Bay Laurel?

We have a whole property of the latter, and as full grown trees, they can take all kinds of light, but as little trees, they grow under the canopy.

Are you growing it for cooking bay leaves?
