Bee experts? What kind of bees are these?

I found a rattailed maggot in a bucket of water once. Had no clue what it was, so it naturally scared the snot out of me. They certainly don't look "normal." Glad to know they grow into something so benign.

I'm not sure what kind of bee the first one is. I don't think it is a mason bee. I'd have to check my insect id book and get back.

However, I wanted to say that my husband has a degree in physics and was once told by a prof. that technically the bumble bees should NOT be able to fly. LOL

The bee in the first couple of photos looks like a Willow Mining Bee to me.

The Drone Fly, according to my book, lays its larvae on wet carrion and in open latrines. I'll assume you don't have an open latrine . . . . ;) LOL
