Bird Sightings 2014 - 2015

Kestrals are a common sight hunting from a perch on the telephone wires. A bird that was rare when we first purchased this property 40 years ago. It is great that we have seen so many bird varieties return.

When I tried to find a pic of a sparrow hawk, it kept coming up with the English version of one. finally found this.
In an old critter reference book, it says the American Kestrel used to be called sparrow hawks. Shows how old my DH is, haha.

The Kestrels are very common here. Some summers they seem to decline but so far they rally back. They are beautiful.

Kestrels are also found here in MT great numbers, here's a shot I got a couple weeks ago in Boise, ID. I didn't know they were called sparrow harks, but I have the habit of calling Northern Harriers "marsh hawks."

In Cal. the Sparrow Hawks are as thick and common as thieves ! I saw them just about every day in Central Cal. on our ranch as well as Northern Cal.near suburbia small acreage areas, driving on country roads and highways alike. :idunno

Pretty, colorful hawk! I don't think I've ever seen one. Named for their markings maybe? Sparrow hawk

Great flight shot @NwMtGardener , I usually end up with a nice big blur.
