President Woodrow Wilson signed the legislation creating the Park Service on this date in 1916.

Here is a virtual tour of Mt Rainier for you, LINK. Don't get your thumb stuck on the 360⁰ photographs!

Web cams are fun and the areas of fog should be lifting soon.

A few years ago the group of 4 of us had a planned excursion after our Alaska cruise to visit Mt. Rainier. We laid over one day in Seattle before flying back. We (3) have gone to the Colorado Rockies SO many times and we know the topography. Imagine our surprise--All winding roads weaving amongst mountains FULL of pine trees that obscure the view. In CO, you get high enough many times past the tree line OR, you can just See the mountain you are visiting Miles before you get there.
With Mt. Rainier you can see it and ONLY it for miles and miles, then it sits alone as a cold volcano mostly covered in snow.
Eldest DD and friend had to take plane seats in the back and they were on the North side, so they got to watch it for a long time on the plane trip back home.
Different state, different Rocky Mountains.,.
