I plant bulbs with a shovel, I think it's easier that way. Of course I don't have to dig in clay either....
I dig as many holes as I need for however the amount of bulbs I'm putting in, divided by 3 or 5 bulbs per hole, then go back and toss in a handful of bonemeal and a handful of bulbs, pull the soil back, press it down with my foot and go to the next. I got 150 bulbs planted in 30 minutes last week.

I have to be fast. Every few years it seems like all my clients follow
@Nyboy 's example and black out, coming home with a trunk full of bulbs that have to be planted before the snow flies lol.
