blossom end rot, what now ?

BER is more common in soil where crops weren't rotated year after year, or in pots. Otherwise it's more likely the lack of water in your case. I'd definitely water more often because if you were to get a big rain there's a fair chance the tomatoes will start splitting from the sudden moisture level difference.

Nope, they are not in the same place as last year. We are lacking water. Have started to go to garden and water every 2 pr 3 days now.

I have had some, but only on the first Romas, and probably bc they didn't get enough water. My chickens are grateful for this bc they got to eat those.
Make sure that your soil is loose and well composted. The compost will keep in moisture when it's dry and drain when it's wet, plus you get all of the microbe stuff feeding your plants. I compost with mint from my mint beds and with grass when I mow and it hasn't gone to seed, so the compost can be really cheap.

They are doing better. We have gotten water to them on a more regular schedule (Still no rain) We composted heavily this spring and DH got a great new tiller. The soil is in pretty good shape :) But we are beginning to see damage from the dreaded hornworm, if it is not one thing it is another. Ahhh gardening. :barnie

Went out to water at dusk last night and the RABBITS scattered! Today I found about 10 tomatoes low to the ground 1/2 eatan, green or red did not matter. We have never had rabbits do that before> I am sure the drought has a lot to do with that. :rant

Darn rabbits !! Ive got baby bunnies(wild) around here, and I am trying my hardest too keep them away !! I found few "bites" out of my tomatoes , but I think its the work of birds or gophers , GRRRRRRRR!!:rant

Desetlady let us know if it works. For now I will try eggshell and epsom salts. And continue to pray for rain. (It has been overcast, cool and a distant rumbling all morning!) All fingers and toes crossed that this time we get some moisture. :fl Many a rain has gone around this summer. :(
So far I havent seen another rot on my pumpkin. maybe its working....
