I've had one or more of these bugs around my plants and don't recall ever seeing one before this year. Didn't give it much thought until today for the umpteenth time in a row it landed in the same place and waited. Next it attacked a tiny bee trying to pollinate one of my plants. Bee got away, but it made the mistake of landing in the same spot so I managed to capture it. ANGRY little bug about 1 1/2" long, making a racket bashing around trying to get out of the container it's in.

There is a pond about 100 yards away, don't know if that's relevant as I occasionally see dragon flies from it yet not with swept back wings.

Anyone know what it is?

Seems to be some type of Robber Fly, possibly a top predatory insect around here that injects venom somewhat like a spider does.
