Today Monty picked green beans off of two rows of our green beans I helped snap the green beans while he did some picking, then he came in with another load. We canned up 26 pints and 7 quarts of green beans so far. He will be picking the last row of green beans tomorrow. It smells so good in our kitchen :drool !!! One of our pint jars of green beans broke in the canner :hit
I'm sure he will post pictures tomorrow

Sounds like you guys really know how to pull good teamwork. :thumbsup Oh, I hate when a jar breaks. Aside from losing that bit of hard work you put in, then you have a mess to clean up too. Bummer! I'm hoping to can lots of beans this summer. They are so good!

It was only one pint jar :( But it still stinks.... It broke in the canner, so Monty cleaned it up. I was outside when it happened. He only put in 3 rows of green beans this year..... Most of our kids are grown and on their own so we dont really need 5 or 6 rows anymore! :D But I sure miss havinghe extra help snapping the beans  :barnie

Here is what I've been doing the last two days...

picking beans...I picked out the rusty ones.

dug a few red potatoes to go with them...

packed the jars...

into the canner...

and finally done...

We canned 27 pints and 21 quarts. I lost one pint to breakage and one didn't seal. The quarts have red potatoes and ham in them. Dew found a great deal on a smoked ham shank at the grocery and brought one home. I skinned it and used pieces of the skin in the pint jars for seasoning. We had a pint with dinner tonight...soo very good!

Picked 2 rows of beans again today. I have 7 quarts cooling in the cooker now, another 14 waiting to go in and about 5 quarts to bag up for tomorrow when I pick the third row. I also dug up 4 red pontiac plants because they were heaving really bad and I needed red potatoes for the beans and for my potato salad that is going with this weekends cook out. I weighed them on the digital kitchen scale, 15 lbs!

monty & dew, I bet your friends and neighbors love knowing you're having a cook out or coming to a cook out. they probably start drooling.
