On the right are the Red Cored Chantenay carrots. They grow very well in harder shallow soils. The larger ones will be canned with some of the Kennebecs I dug this morning. The smaller ones will be steam blanched and frozen as baby carrots. Looks like the taters are doing great, as I only had to dig a few plants to get enough for today's canning project. The larger taters will go with the carrots, anything left will be canned seperately.

And I found a small mess of cukes ready. While picking them, I discovered many, many, many baby ones...so, oh boy, here they come!!! I'll be picking those every day now.

lol major, it's raining here again!!!! :( but we sure are thankful for the cool down!!! Hopefully next weekend we can do the cobbler and steak ;)

Mmm love garden fresh carrots. They best (and only) carrots we ever grew where planted under where the rabbit hutch stood for a few years! We have tried and failed many times since. :( So... do you can all the potatoes? Or keep some in a root cellar? Looks like we are in for a bumper crop of taters. :) Right now the zucchini and cucumbers are overrunning us.

Carol, we keep some potatoes for us. It's just so nice to open a jar of potatoes and carrots and dump them in some beef soup.....mmmmm we use all of the potatoes even the little ones!!! We just peeled a bunch of little ones for new potatoes, and sliced them to can.
