Coffee

REALLY, people!!! Let's argue what kind of Decent plant tastes like spinach or better.
I will not be scouring my back yard looking for Great Depression Era plants to eat, like Lambs Quarters!!
I Could harvest young wild onions, but I do NOT. They are growing everywhere in my big garden.
NOT that desperate.
DH says, ALL OF THE TIME, that he wants to eat dandelion leaves.
I ask, when will you harvest them?

Big silence.
Every time I garden my beds, I find myself pulling/digging out dandelions, bc they are deep rooted things and there is only a short window to get anything to eat from them. NOT interested, either.
Just sayin...not to tell you what to do with your time. :hugs

I have come up with a good brand of Dandelion Tea from The Republic of Tea that makes a  dandy caffeine reducer for coffee. Other than the roasted organic roots, it has "vanilla flavor and other natural flavors."

All I can taste is a very light vanilla.

It suggests that I may be able to duplicate this if I can find some dandelions that aren't volunteers in the lawn. I would tolerate them in a larger garden but the secret of tasty roots really seems to be healthy, vigorously growing dandelions not those in marginal situations or abused by the mower.

Steve, Ducks' may want me to go back and change the title to Coffee and Everything but one only has a few days to edit a thread title :D.

I have lots of lambsquarters, so think I will try them. I may bring it up again in spring for more culinary info. I NEED more dandelions cuz I have several uses for them, not the least of which is feeding rabbits. I only have had a few and they haven’t seeded in well. Clover too. Need more of that.
On another subject, does anyone else in here have a Service Dog?🐕‍🦺

I love picking dandelion greens in clean, no- pesticide areas out in nature! The young leaves are yummy mixed in salads and they have so many health benefits. Look it up!

I also like to gather the young, brand new flowers and make dandelion flower tea! Just add honey!!

vanilla flavor is likely vanillin which is not extracted from the beans type of vanilla. it is supposedly stronger so much less of it needs to be used for a similar taste. it's cheap, it's plentiful and used in a lot of things.
