Texas Hill Country has many volunteers, many sending money, FEMA, our Texas based beloved grocery store, HEB. HEB actually has disaster 18 wheelers that roll up to disasters. You might say we have our own version of FEMA.
Governor Abbot called President Trump and asked for military helicopters rescue teams on the first day. Many people were saved from the floods, lifted out of the waters.
The Cajun Navy 2016 is here, many organizations, much help is needed and it will continue for a long time.
What people don’t realize, search and rescue is more than giving people their dead loved ones back to bury and grieve over. With no dead body, there is no death certificate. With no proof of death, legalities can drag on for years, leaving survivors in legal hell. No insurance will pay off on “missing “ until several years have passed. Our precious volunteers find a body, break down and cry, then keep looking. With the new rains and floods yesterday, debris piles have been washed further down river, reaching Lake Travis, Canyon Lake and other reservoirs. Various reports say 150-170 people have not been found.

What most don’t realize is for a president to appear, Secret Service must secure the area, nobody in or out, wherever they are, all actions cease. Our officials came, they showed support, they deeply care and respectfully, they left so the rescue efforts could continue. God Bless them.

I'm deeply saddened with all these lives lost. homes and lives ruined
It's unbearable to even think about what these people are going through.

It's a relief that this is being acknowledged by your leader. I've heard nothing about this until now.

It's all such a tragedy. I hope this weather breaks soon. And people find their loved ones at least.

As for the legalities. Maybe in this case and similar cases in future laws could be reconsidered.

I did some research on how long it takes to declare someone dead. 7 YEARS. 3 YEARS under special circumstances-maybe. So I just sent a message to the governor expressing my concern for the legal limbo hell the families will be forced to endure, asking if he could make a special exception for this horrendous situation. I asked if he could expedite the process, so families could get legal things done sooner.

Great thinking, this is a Great idea We can only try and push this ideas gently enough in the right directions, something might improve such situations.
