I have to say, your old recipes look rather yummy. Cabbage soup 😋. I'd like to try those dumplings
As for liver and onions, that's still eaten here by some of us, great with mash potatoes

brown sugar, butter and bread could be the basis of much of my life if tomatoes hadn't invaded... it probably would not be a particularly healthy life but hey, put some pistachios or pecans on it and call it good. :) oh, and some cream too. nutmeg, cinamon, allspice, pick what you like and ignore the rest.
I tell you what. I'll be trying some of these recipes. The pasta and tomato looks really good to. And what about the stuffed cabbage leaves. Super yummy.
They did a lot with beans to. Now that's a healthy meal.

plus of course in these budget conscious times we can either skip or include eggs if we want. :)

So I watched a lot of these videos and honestly, growing up in the midwest USA in a predominately Irish and German family, not a lot of these were unfamiliar to me. I never was made to eat milk toast, but mainly because my Grandma on my Dads side swore by it and every time he would get sick it was milk toast, thing is, it was milk and toast he says, no sugar, no butter! To hard on the stomach she said. That grandma and I weren't particularly close but I wish I would have gotten to know her better.

How we made our pudding
Mom , would cut off the crust. And cut the bread into triangles. Placing the bread into the bottom of a casserole add a little sugar and continued too this each time until the dish was full.
Then pouring in the milk and add butter on top top and sometimes nutmeg
My uncle would add the crusts in a pattern on top.

If i made this now I'd add cinnamon but I don't use packet white bread anymore. Shame really, because I really enjoyed that pudding
