Your pictures are identical to what I have. Therefore 10 years later I would like to know what is your conclusion? Yes that is watermelon adjacent. I planted my corn 18" apart. I planted 100% Organic from Seeds of Change,
Golden Bantam Sweet Corn. And now reading the package description it suggests planting them 10" spacing. Oh well live and learn.

It really doesn’t make any difference. Cut them off or leave them. The suckers won’t produce good ears. If you have animals that would like a green snack, cut them off and give them a treat.
