The weather has turned cool for the last several days, but I decided to plant the cucumbers in the greenhouse anyway. They were getting too big for the 3" pots, and I figured running the heater is a trade off against growing them under lights indoors. This year I have installed netting to form a trellis for the plants to climb, and I was amazed to find the tendrils wrapping themselves around the netting less than an hour after I set the plants in front of it. Mother Nature never ceases to amaze me.

Wow! Talk about right before your eyes! Crank that heater up, Jackb- they are talking 20 degrees here, tonight. They look great!

I just checked the temperature in the greenhouse and it is 51 degrees. They changed our forecast for tonight to a low of forty five degrees. It is hard to believe yours will be in the twenties.

Looks like it wasn't lower than 23-24, but still!!! This looks like the last real frost....we hope.

Here is a photo taken after just sixteen days in the greenhouse. When checking the plants today I was amazed to find that every plant already has female flowers. This may be a banner year for pickles!

Gorgeous already, JackB! I just put my seeds in the dirt yesterday!
You have a greenhouse and don't start them early! I have Boston Picklers in dirt outside and they are also flowering. I planted them last week. I like to push the season a little.

You know, I had big plans... but, we had frost almost every night in April. I didn't want to heat the thing. I had a big antique show in Brimfield- I knew I would be gone for 8 days, and just didn't want to start seeds, and have them die. Is that enough excuses?? I promise I will do better next year! Actually, I planted the seeds in the greenhouse. I will get them big and healthy, before I put them out in the cruel world. To be honest, I have jars of pickles downstairs that we didn't eat from last year. So, these will be for fresh eating. Happy Gardening!
