A friend of mine just gave me this cute little houseplant! I love it, but I don't know what it is? Any ideas?

I think it should be a kind of pennywort?

i'm trying to find that leaf vein pattern in any pictures and don't see it. so perhaps a more tropical plant that looks like a pennywort? or perhaps there is a variety that is different than the rest? i dunno. plant id has always been my weak point unless i've grown it.

Yes, some look quite similar. In Chinese, their names are all related to coins.:p

Another possibility should be Pilea peperomioides , the Chinese money plant,[2] ufo plant, pancake plant or missionary plant, also commonly taken as indoor plants.

I agree with Money Plant. DW & I have been trying (so far unsuccessfully) to talk the owner of the Oriental grocery where we shop into parting with one of theirs. She is a long-time friend, and will probably save a baby for us eventually.
