How many? No idea. Tried them first time with group of friends-3 other couples. None of the women would try but all the men did. Tastes like great beef in garlic butter sauce. This was 40 years ago. Eaten them ever since.

@thistlebloom okra is NOT slimy if cooked correctly-same with snails. Ate okra gumbo for supper tonight-oh so good. Love fried okra with bacon for flavor with onions & garlic. Fry it till its brown in areas-reduced about half.

@Nyboy Even Mary tried the sauce......close your eyes, let your friend feed you one and enjoy. They are good.

I used to offer escargot to my fourth grade class every year. A lot of the students were game to try them -- come to think of it, they were mostly the boys. Teacher still hasn't.

Bought them with my own money from a store with ethnic foods. I liked to expand students ideas of food they were not likely to find close by. Learning need not all come from books and well-rounded students make better citizens, IMHO.
