Do chrysanthmums self seed and multiply?

If so, I think one of mine did this. I HOPE so bc I lost two last winter in a two sidewalk bordering beds where they are the focal point in the planting. I carefully dug one out about 1 foot from the parent plant and transplanted it. Am I fooled? It looked like it had roots. If I'm wrong I'll just buy two more, but it looks like there are at least 10 of them.

I don't know. I've never noticed mine having 'babies' near the mother plant. What you can do with mums is divide last year's plant into many new plants. It is possible that the plant about a foot from your parent plant is growing from a root from the mother plant.

Mums grow and flower best when started from a single stemmed section. Keep that section bud-prunned every two weeks or so until about July 4th. By fall each section will have become a full bush ready to burst into flower.

Mums can produce seed occasionally but when they do they often revert back to the wild type which is a single row of petals like a daisy.

Sounds good to me! I plant flowers to starve out weeds at my place.

It looked like I pulled this little one off of a stem from the mother plant. It is growing and doing well. We've had a lot of rain and the mother plant is 12 inches tall, and 16 inches wide. Do you suppose it may have rooted from an original stalk?
