never wear shoes in the summer in the garden. Spring/fall the ground is too cold for me. Winter always wear boots.......

clicked on link. writer is dead wrong. Barefoot will actually compact the soils worse than wear shoes (unless they are high heels) It's all about weight (pressure) per square inch. Shoes will even out your weight over a larger area.

In my younger days, I never even considered wearing shoes on the freshly prepared soil, I always planted barefoot. It was not because I understood anything about compacting soil (or not) but becaused I loved the feel of the earth on my feet. I must now wear certain shoes to keep my balance.

ETA there is a specific Pacific NW attire for gardening you need a pair of good boots ..some heavy duty socks ..khaki shorts with lots of pockets...cotten Tshirt ..flannel shirt and sometimes a hoody with a rain shell over it
