Dog Driving Me Crazy

I feel for you. We have one of those Velcro dogs. She'll injure herself to try to get to us if we are separated. She's basically my wife's shadow around the house. She's usually not to bad in her crate so we can at least leave the house without taking her with us. She does not come close to liking other dogs as much as being with one of us.

She also has storm anxiety. Sometimes it seems the storm doesn't even need to be on this side of the Rocky's or Appalachians to set her off. She really loses it. This is when she has to be medicated, whether she is in her crate or with us, for her protection.

No suggestions, no advice. Just I feel for you.

She is a great dog at home, I think the problem is they have a doggie door and large yard. She is not used to be confined. Luckily cafe owner in town a big dog lover, he hooks me up with grilled chicken for her. Sister better bring me back something better then ashtray from her vacation

She sounds anxious. I wonder if they make any sedatives for dogs? Did they bring her pillow or toys from home? I always send my dog with her blanket when she goes to the vet or kennel. It is very comforting for her.

My dog was always very storm-scared when she was younger and would pace the house all night if it stormed. She lost most of her hearing a couple years ago and it really turned out to be a blessing. She is cool as a cucumber now.

Maybe try a thunder vest on him? I'd also take him out for a long and vigorous run/walk at the start of the day, with a backpack attached....those kind of dogs have an amazing amount of energy to expel and he's just doing it in the only way he can right now...barking and pacing.

If that doesn't work, I'd just attach him to your belt and make him go with you everywhere that you go. This will keep him occupied and moving, having to pay attention to your moves so he won't get yanked around, and will give the velcro dog something to cling to.
