Is it okay if I throw this one in, even though it's posted in the POW thread? It was my first bloom this spring.

@majorcatfish Did you plant that dogwood or is it a native one? I love dogwoods, killed quite a few trying to have 1 in my yard.

ours are native have in the past purchased dogwoods numerous times and they have all died so i gave up, i leave up to the birds and mother nature.
they are the only plant i have seen at the nursery that does not have a warranty if it dies....

Perhaps here is where my patience and cheapness pays off. I am willing to buy the tiniest of plants with the expectation that they will survive and grow with care. The small ones are usually less expensive, besides. I have a dogwood that was planted when it was barely 18 inches tall. It has been here for over ten years and will be blooming in a couple of weeks (I hope). I believe it is a Kousa called "Red Chief", although, I find the flowers more pink than red.

I, too, have killed a couple of dogwoods. Not from my mis-care, but from a virus that took out my earliest efforts. It is hard to watch a baby (tree) die knowing there's nothing you can do.

Nyboy, do you have any mock orange? If you like blooming shrubs, this is an ideal one for flowering. Smells like citrus and looks like the morning after a snowstorm, so many blooms you can hardly see the foliage. Flowers a bit later -- like early summer rather than early spring.

Red I have a hedge of Mock orange at work they where here before me (over 30 years). Funny thing is none of them have any fragrance, had different people ID them because of that.

I have three varieties, four plants and every one has flowers that smell of oranges. Of course, you have to get your nose right into the flower.

A nose view of my hyacinths. I could lay here and smell for hours.

The reds and purples are just beginning to flower. I may have lost my Gypsy Hyacinths. I haven't found them yet.

And a Swiss Cheese flower. Actually, it's a Mexican White Primrose that something ate through while it was still in the bud. I thought it looked interesting!
