I read about that separation problem with the toffee ingredients. Some folks say that if that happens, take the pot off the heat and whip it with a wire wisk until it combines again. Then put it back on the heat. Apparently, you can do this technique as needed until you reach the proper temperature.I am SO envious! Last night DD and I tried to make a very simple toffee recipe for a British Tea Basket gift we're making for someone. Simple ingredients - sugar, butter, salt. It didn't work! Separated totally, and the two of us hung our heads for the rest of the night feeeling defeated. We also tried to make British Golden Syrup and failed!
