Figs, Figs, Figs, Figs

I went out today to see how the figs were coming along....then I came back in the house and gathered four half gallon containers and waited for DH to get home. Twenty minutes later, we had two gallons of ripe figs picked. I think that is all I want to handle at one go. So....in a couple of days we can do it all over again. Not complaining at all, nope I am not!

Yumm, figs. I wish I could grow them here. I guess it's possible, but lots of work, you have to bury the stems every season, or wrap them up in burlap and leaves. Maybe someday....

What are you planning to do with them all?

Once, when I had bags and bags of them, I made up a fig pie, which turned out very well! They can always be made into preserves, dried, and made into cookie bars to freeze, too!

I plan to make whole preserved figs in heavy syrup...nothing tastes better on a cold winter morning than fig preserves on hot homemade biscuits! If they had a drooling smiley, I would post one here!

Our figs aren't quite ready to pick yet, should be soon, we eat them fresh off the tree, any that drop our chickens get.

Our fig tree here is only about 2 feet tall. No figs for a while.

who's got figs? mine kind of look like this...but this picture is almost a month old (or it could be last years my pictures are a mess!) visualize my figs about a third bigger than this righgt now... and they should be ready by August

the leaves are so pretty and I use them to decorate the table or plates (wow that sounds Marthish) ...but this year I just learned they are great tossed on the grill as smoke ...and also give a wonderful sweet vanilla/fig flavor to food when baked ..stewed ..steamed.....wonderful to wrap around halibut and grill

YUMMMMMMM !!!!!!! Figs, i have about 7 fig trees here about 7 to 8 feet tall, last year i had figs but i think for figs you need the fruiting stems to be at least a year old.
I love figs straight from the tree, their so sweet its like honey. A great way to eat them is to grill the figs and wrap them with prosicutto, they do this in italy its really good.

We got lots of figs here too. I love them! The only think I dislike is that if your lips touch the skin of the fig, you'll have little spikes stuck on to you.
