First Garden, nearly 50 years ago

Steve, I thought of you as I got on the scale and I've gained the 5lbs that took me a year to lose! I knew things were not going well when I noticed my shirts fitting tighter, ugh! For the last 6 months I've been eating Cheetos and Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey ice-cream every day. I also stopped weighing myself every morning. This is my way of nipping it in the bud if I see the weight going up.

I've got to go back to eating more salads for lunch. This past week I didn't buy my above mentioned treats. Back to the grind stone. :/

I have some extra motivation to struggle with the weight. The osteopath told me at age 18 that I had evidence of joint erosion. Fortunately, the hip didn't really get much worse. Other joints had problems. But, the rheumatic inflammations lessened and lessened thru my 30's.

But, anyway . . .

Once I hit 200#, I realized that this much weight interferes with mobility. I'm not sure if I'd be a whole lot more active if I was 170 again but if I'm going over 200, I know I'm going to have problems. The circulation in my legs isn't so great and it will even be easier for me fall.

Keeping weight off has a lot to do with emotions. For me, it is mostly just the pleasure of eating & eating. I've got to set some limits even if I didn't . . . chunky monkey you say? . . . crave high calorie food. Mary, I won't leave the Cheetos alone until they are gone! The only way I won't eat the entire bag - DW will just look at me and shake her head - is to not buy them. If I don't have much except fruit to snack on, that's what I'll do. I'm still on the 3 servings of fruit at breakfast. I get the whole oats whatyoucallit cold cereal too but can't eat much of that after having 3 servings of fruit! In isn't a weight loss diet but I like it and it slows me down until I can get back to burning some of these calories.

Steve, you like Cheetos also? I love them especially while I'm drinking my jasmine tea. This past week they were on sale for $1.67 which is a very good price over here. Fortunately for me, I eat a healthy breakfast every day. The same thing every day, which is greek yogurt with honey, blueberries, and banana, and my tea. Mid-morning snack is a handful of nuts. For me, it's that afternoon snacking that I do. I also love food and eating out is a favorite past time on weekends. Working out 4 times a week helps so that I can eat delicious food!

Mary, you are waaay ahead of me at this time of year.

If I didn't have snow to shovel in too tight thermals, I'd never break a sweat.
