Asparagus doesn't freeze all that well, but yes, you should blanch it before you freeze it. Quickly. Then cool it quickly in ice water.

I wonder if the dry ice method we were discussing in another thread about zuchinni and strawberries would help to retain asparaguses texture better?

blance it for not more than about 15 seconds and immediatly put it in ice water. Let it dry completely, vacuum pack, and put it is the freezer. Then cook it in the bag and it is pretty good still.
