@Dahlia, nice job on the scampi! We have them here as well but it’s been several years since ive gone after them. Some years our F&G department has restricted the number of pots down to 2 per vessel and it’s just not worth going to all the expensive and effort.

They are prized when we get them! We recently sold the boat to our Daughter and Son in law so maybe they’re youthful vigor will kick in and they’ll toss the ole folks a bone from time to time.

the bucket of heads always finds it’s way into the compost pile.

Alasgun,
You are luckier in AK than we are here in the PNW! We only get around 4 days per year to fish for spot prawns!!!

@Dahlia yea; i’d heard that before. Our season runs from April 15th till Sept 1st. For us they change the allowable pot numbers which dissuades many when it’s down to 2 pots., especially with $5.00 gas!
However; you can’t look only at the cost but it’s certainly a consideration. Boat holds 100 gallon’s and i’d have to drag it for 2 1/2 hr’s one way to Whittier, after launching i travel out into Prince William sound up to 60 miles to shrimp ground. Typically i’d stay out 3-4 days and return with about 7-10 gallons of tails. When i was younger id shrimp 3-4 times a year and in later years once a year.
hopefully the youthful son in law will start the cycle all over again!

Scampi, Fettuccini and creme sauce or as a stir fry, they’re hard to beat!!
