I know some say fruit trees are hard to grow in the south so I was wondering, those of you who have had success how often do you spray them and what do you use? I have a Peach tree and 2 Apple trees that need some help. I end up with different kinds of insects on both along with Japanese Beetles. Would like to get on a spray regime and see if things turn out better next year.

Thanks for any advice.

I just planted apple trees this past spring.... I am starting to attract quite a few obnoxious bugs to them now. I have determined I am going to treat them with neem oil.

You might try your county cooperative extension agent. They should be in the phone book under county government. I got a spray program for fruit trees from the Arkansas extension office. It takes you from the dormant season through harvest. I'd expect North Carolina to have something very similar. Your season might be a little different from mine.

Good luck!

I posted yesterday but APPARENTLY it didn't get posted!

We have 5 apple trees out in our mini-orchard, they have been attacked by caterpillars galore (as in only 2 have anything sizeable left on them in the way of fruit) and those are only 2nd year planted in the ground trees.

ANYWAY we bought up a supply of insecticidal soap and sprayed ALL of our trees, we had to remove the rabbit guards as the caterpillars were living IN them. The caterpillars are dead, and we're spraying once a week until end of the season because the trees are looking DREADFUL right now. If I had left it any longer I think they might be dead.

In the spring just when the very tip of the buds turn green you are supposed to spray with dormant spray to get those pesky things before they hatch.
