not quite but close. if you've ever swam in unprotected parts of Lake Superior you may think you've froze your tooter off...

years ago, one warm day in May, even in the Portage Canal i took a dip. it lasted only a few moments before i determined it was a bad idea. brrr!

in sheltered bays you can swim and it can be nice, but there aren't that many of those in the area i was at most of the time. one bay is called Misery Bay and for good reason. it's basically an outlet for a swamp and there's gobs of mosquitoes and in the colder earlier part of the season also the black flies which are even worse than mosquitoes.
