Here's some photos of our original raised bed garden, from about 15 years ago.

My dh used to till it for me with a Mantis.

My dh declined in mid December, went Home (to Jesus) in January. I've been busy handling things, now am getting back to regular house and yard stuff.

About 8 months after I purchased them I set up two rainbarrels. We had one inch of rain and they both overflowed!

I have two more to set up. Soon.

This was where my garden was about ten years ago. It was beyond me.

Here comes Frank and his Bobcat.

I will be planting blueberry bushes and a couple elderberry bushes, too. It's been cold and wet, so loosening and amending the soil is running behind.

Three different varieties are waiting...

I transplanted iris into a new bed last year. They'd not bloomed in years, I was hoping the location is better.

Looks like it is!

Cold or not I am heading outside to get something done.

I love your rain barrel set up!
I, too have a rain barrel, in it's box in the garage, in front of where I park MY car, so I won't lose it.
I plan to set it up to the downspout on the SE corner of the house and run a 50 ft hose directly into the opening of my cistern.
Where does your hose go? It's hard to see in your photo.
OH, I have never seen Amaryllis living outside and flowering in somebody's garden bed!!
We really have a lot colder climate that YOU do, bc I won't put mine outside until at least Mother's Day--too cold here!

it looks like you have a fair amount of shade going on there. that may mean that the irises won't bloom as much as they would otherwise if they had full sun.

At this time the overflow hose empties into a little pond, but I am thinking about attaching a longer hose with a soaker hose at the end and have it head out towards my raised beds. As long as it's away from the house it should be fine.

We get a LOT of rain here.

I was doing Spring cleaning on my ponds today, went to Lowe's for connectors for the spillway, and when I got home one of the ponds was almost empty! Apparently when I put things back they weren't "back" enough, and water was pumped out. So...I connected the hose between the rainbarrel and the pond, and refilled the pond!

I'm in eastern NC, USDA planting zone 8a, our winters are much shorter and not as cold as elsewhere.

From today: peas and turnips. Carrots are in the middle, but they're hard to see.

Actually the backyard gets a lot of sun. We have several cedars on the north side, and some hardwood trees on the west, but the new iris garden gets sun from about 9am until 5 or so. The fact that I have a bud is encouraging.

Gardens require attention and care. Along with those practical concerns, there are the gardening returns of value including the pleasure of seeing your garden grow while, hopefully, enjoying it every minute.

I am going to empty into my cistern bc I use it to water so much that I have lowered it to the point where I had to fill it from the Other cistern, but it's cheaper than buying city water.
Do you have anything besides aquatic plants in your pond?

Frogs, and Fathead minnows. The fish I purposely introduced, the frogs just showed up.
