Now I have to do a soil test, I'll do that tonight and then I will know where my N, P, K, and Ph is at but will have to wait two or three day on the soil texture test.

You don't need a fence because of critters?

Good dogs and good shot :D

I have 2 good dogs outside that keep most of the unwanted critters and I am a fairly good shot with a gun so I keep the stubborn critters out.

Thank you,
I'll let you on to a little secret,
When fall starts to set in DON'T pull the weeds out, let them grow and just cut them down also if you can let grass grow in the walk ways for most of the growing season and keep it mowed that way you have a living mulch. By letting the grass grow but keeping it cut the root help loosen the soil, the grass helps retain water, and in the spring when you till it under you will be adding green manure. I've been doing that for going on 6+ years now and works great. By mid summer I don't have to worry about walking in muddy walk because there grass. ;)

My garden has to be Fort Knox against the critters at all levels, ground, sides, and top. In this forest there is no shooting like that allowed. Dogs have to be on a leash. But there is no rule against having a gophergitter Abyssinian! He goes in the garden if the gophers get through, has his own dog carrier turned into a garden cat house, door removed, warm old pillows and blanket and old sweater. Took him a few months, but he's really good indoors now too.

You are lucky to be able to do it unfenced!

what kind of tiller do you use?
The garden this year was tilled with a tractor with a rotovator and it worked out nice but in the past I used a older front tine Husky/TSC/ MTD tiller and I'll be using it the rest of the season.

I'm sure your soil test will turn out fine, or at worst, nothing that a bit of bone meal won't fix. Between Bone Meal and Kelp, most nutrients are there.
