Thought I'd share pictures of the millet that I grew for my chickens this year.

I bought 2 bags of wild bird feed back in February (on clearance), stored with in one of my livestock grain cans, and scattered the seeds in two tilled patches in my "Orchard." A few sunflowers grew up with them, and 2 corn stalks, as well. In fact, I thought I had planted sweet corn there, because the stalks resemble them. The wild birds have been gathering there to eat, so I knew I need a few photos before I harvest it.

Neat! How will you harvest and store it?

I just saw a bag of seed labeled for feeding deer -- collards, kale, radish, etc. I bet chickens would love that for fall grazing.

Dunno. Probably, I'll hang it to totally dry it, then store in some metal coffee cans. I'll keep those in my barn's grain room. It was really a good deal--I think I spent $3.00 on the seed.

You know how it is--these stores don't keep stuff after season, and if it doesn't sell during a sale, they dump it, then 3 months later they restock for the upcoming season. It's really a mecca for us, dontcha think? ;)
