The Bloody Butcher corn results were not encouraging. None of the old seed showed the least inclination to sprout. On the other hand the new seed had 100% germination within 3 days so I can use that and have plenty left over. Hoping the genetic bottleneck will not be a problem.
This test was finished weeks ago, but with my father's passing the following week I have been preoccupied and had forgotten to update this post.
Could I have done something different with the old seed? I tried sprouting them on my dining table, in a 68 degree house, in late winter, without bottom heat. I really, REALLY want to get any of the remaining genetics in that old seed into my current population, but last year may have been it. Germination was perhaps 1-2% out of all I planted.
