a lot of heavy rains, thunder, lightning and hail last night. i've not heard hail that size too often. looked like some snow on the ground but it was hail. could not see the bigger pieces that fell but i didn't go outside to look either.

we don't have a metal roof but we do have a metal fireplace spark screen and animal keep out cover on the chimney and that was pinging. i suspect a metal roof would have really made some noise. as it was by the time i went to sleep i was able to fall asleep pretty quickly and didn't wake up until about a half hour ago (4:45am)...

when i was checking the radar last night before i shut down my computer and unplugged it all (i have a power surge protector and battery backup but i still don't like to use it when there are a lot of lightning strikes going on) there were some impressive hail storms coming at us plus those types of storms are also the kinds that often will give tornado warnings and reports.

i was telling Mom if she heard something like a freight train to take cover in a few spots in the house and she asked if we should go down in the crawlspace. well it would have been warm and dry but getting there would have probably killed her and getting back out after if she survived might also have done it. just not easy at all for her to get in and out of there now... i can do it but it's not easy for me either.

looks like more storms heading at us now but we'll see what happens. at least no snow or ice in today's forecast at the moment but sleet chance later today. i think we'll be ok, but who knows for sure? it's weather... it's Michigan and it is almost spring...

definitely all this rain will take care of any drought designation - i bet the ditches and fields are pretty soggy and the rivers will be up - this is good as we had a dry fall and not much snow this winter.
