Getting any snow?

I'm going to convert my tomato trellises to mini hoop houses next fall by zip tying some pvc to the top of the trellises every so often to create a small arch. Doesn't have to be much because they are already as tall as I am, just need to have an arch and be able to clear my head when I walk in there. Stretch some plastic on those and I've got a field house.

I figure I can get at least 2 of those in my kind of setup, maybe even three, and each will be 8 ft. long. Then, if I add a floating row cover on the greens under there I just might be able to get them through the worst of winter. I can bank up leaves in strategic areas to create more insulation, add straw around the plants and more leaves for windblock outside, so it just might work.

doing some couch engineering on how to do this cheaply.....

I am getting closer and closer to planting something and playing in the dirt. I've found that the new heating system is doing a much better job of keeping the sun room heated through sub-zero (F) temperatures then the oil furnace did.

We are predicted to get up to 5-6 inches of snow between tonight and Monday morning. I haven't seen the forecast myself yet, but I'm sure hoping we're on the low edge of the accumulation. No way I want to spend Valentine's Day plying a shovel -- but I'm getting better at it.

On the other hand, it is supposed to get to the mid-forties, perhaps even to fifty during this next week. Dare I let the sun and warmth take care of the snow? Of course, the temperatures getting that high depend upon how much snow the Southern breezes have to flow over. Lots of people get lots of snow Sunday and the temps will stay much cooler.

The sun does a lot of the snow removal here too...if you can wait long enough, it does a better job and you don't have to lift a finger. It only got to 20 today, with lower windchill, but the snow was melting all the same...huge icicles off the roof.

It was 49 degrees today, got the band mill on the rails and set three bunks, [cross bars], tack welded in one bunk. If the weather is kind I'll be able to finish enough to cut a bit of lumber, just to see what else need doing.

Cold here too....but not as cold as last winter, so that's a huge blessing! Only supposed to get down to 3* tonight. Last winter we dipped to -17, which is pretty cold for this area.

I'm just glad we are getting some cold...my apple trees needed to go dormant if we are going to have any fruit this year.

Weather guys said there is record heat on the west coat, and record cold on the east coast.
less than a year ago it was record drought on the west coast and record rain fall on the east coast. :barnie
