one year I had a great load of horse manure, but since then no manure available. now that I have these adorable goats that kindly provide these cute little piles of brown berries, I think my compost is going to heat right up

it's true. I have been smitten w/goat fever. i'm sure it will wear off, but for now, i'm sure enjoying it.

you know? it is pretty strange how we assign food names to this, um, stuff.

Goat manure is almost identical in composition to rabbit manure and can be treated the same way. They both can be piled pretty thickly around plants without burning. You can use them to heat up a compost pile but I prefer to compost in place. If you pile it a couple of inches deep around your tomato plants they can go for a long time with no added fertilizer; often for the entire season.
